Management of fear and pain

5–10% of the population suffer from dentophobia, a fear of the dentist. Even just walking into the dentist causes these people to suffer from symptoms such as trembling, sweating, nausea, pounding heart and in the worst case even cardiovascular collapse.

We can help. We can give you a gentle calmative before your treatment along with our multimedia distraction therapy. If you would prefer, we also treat with general anaesthesia.

Other pain management options:

TENS – Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation: A nerve that transmits the pain is blocked. This is done using a perfectly normal 9V battery. The strength of the anaesthesia can thus be determined by the patient. After the procedure that patient will not experience any numbness, unlike with a syringe.

Tropical-gel: Before conventional anaesthesia, we offer pre-treatment with a numbing gel with a fruity flavour.

Multimedia distraction therapy: US studies have demonstrated that the subjective experience of pain of patients who watched relaxing videos or were distracted by multimedia was drastically reduced.

Laser acupuncture: If you have a strong gag reflex or if you do not want to use conventional anaesthesia, we offer laser acupuncture as an alternative. Laser acupuncture is also suitable for follow-up treatment for tooth extractions to accelerate healing and to minimise pain. Up to 50% less anaesthesia was needed!
